What is Spartan Race?

Founded in 2007 Spartan Race is a series of obstacle races of varying distance and difficulty ranging from 3 miles to marathon distances. These races are held in the United States and have been franchised to 30 countries, including Canada, South Korea, Australia, the Philippines and several European countries. Each year they host a race at KuaLoa Ranch in Oahu. Participants in the WHEA Spartan Club over the age of 14 may be able to do a field trip to participate in the race in Oahu next August.

Who is leading?

This club is hosted by ‘Ohana Martial Arts. Program Director Tara Brown, a WHEA parent, Occupational Therapist, martial arts teacher and former certified SGX Spartan Trainer will be leading the trainings. Tara has completed the Beast at KuaLoa in 2019 and the Super in 2022 and a trifecta in Seattle in 2023. Weeks she is out of town, a trained adult ‘Ohana staff member will lead the club. Teen Coach Soyer has been on our staff for 2 years and will be helping out and participating in trainings. He placed 1st in the Super (7 mile) race in August in his age group at KuaLoa this year and plans to completed the weekend trifecta in 2023 (Beast 13 miles Saturday and the Super and Sprint on Sunday) winning 2nd place in the beast for his age division!

What will be be doing?

Every week we will be working out spartan style and learning how to become ‘unbreakable!’ The 7 pillars of Spartan are Stamina, Athleticism, Readiness, Tenacity, Attitude and Nutrition. Each student will be provided a folder to track their personal goals, progress and workouts. Each student will be starting with different levels of fitness. We will tailor workouts to each student so they are challenged and get a good workout in.

Atmosphere!

‘Ohana Martial Arts Motto is ‘Discipline, Respect and Honor.’ We strive to work hard, do our best, always encourage others and have a ton of fun. Bad attitudes are not welcome to the Spartan Club!
